Lawrence (Larry) E. Duren, editor and publisher of the Middleton Times-Tribune from 1958 to 1967, died March 7, 2003, at the age of 76.
Duren was born Feb. 10, 1927, in Cazenovia, Wis., attended UW-Madison, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
After his tenure at the Times-Tribune, Duren served 17 years as director of employee assistance for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. He also was the author of a book titled “Home Garden Hydroponics.” He loved small-town life and understood the importance of small-town newspapers.
