Lawrence V. Cowles, former longtime owner of the Loyal Tribune, was born Sept. 26, 1904, in Dodge County to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cowles.
He went on to graduate from Fond du Lac High School and on Oct. 11, 1925, he married Loretta Bannech. The couple settled in Loyal, where they had three children and three grandchildren.
Cowles purchased the Loyal Tribune in 1925 and operated it for 28 years. He sold the newspaper in 1951 to open a small business and retired in 1971. Cowles then moved to Stevens Point with his wife.
Cowles died June 5, 1982. He was 77.
