The Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation is accepting applications from students and member newspapers for its 2021 Summer Internship Program.
Up to four college journalists will be placed at WNA-member newspapers across the state during the summer of 2021. Schedules — including any possibility of remote work during the pandemic — will vary based on the newspapers’ preferences, but interns will earn approximately $3,200 for an eight-week, full-time internship.
Students are asked to submit a completed application along with a short essay about their personal philosophy of journalism’s role in society, published work samples and optional letters of recommendation to support their application. Internships will be awarded to students enrolled in accredited colleges and universities and interested in reporting, editing, advertising, marketing, photography or other newspaper roles. Consideration will be given to students who show professional promise and interest in a career in newspapers.
Participating newspapers will receive a stipend from the WNA Foundation to help cover costs, but must provide at least $1,200 in matching funds for intern wages.
The application deadline is May 11, 2021.
