Those interested in contributing to the scholarship fund are directed to send donations to the M. Patricia Simms Journalism Scholarship Fund, c/o Meanwell Investment Group, 1 Erdman Place, Suite 200, Madison, WI 53717-2171. The fund will be used to support students “with a passion to study journalism.”

Simms, who spent her entire reporting career with the State Journal, died Monday, April 5, after a fight with cancer. A Buffalo, N.Y., native, Simms joined the State Journal in July 1969, months after earning her master’s in journalism from Northwestern University.

After retiring in 2011, Simms served as an instructor at Madison College and Edgewood College and was the faculty adviser for the On the Edge student newspaper. Simms’ former students and colleagues shared memories of her with On The Edge last week.
