MILWAUKEE – Matt Velazquez, who covered the Milwaukee Bucks for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, is leaving the newspaper after 7 1/2 years.

Velazquez announced his departure Tuesday, his last day with the Journal Sentinel. He explained in a farewell column that he is leaving to help his wife fulfill her dream of becoming a physician.

A Connecticut native, Velazquez joined the Journal Sentinel in July 2013 as a reporter covering the Marquette men’s basketball team and as a digital sports producer. In July 2017, he shifted to the Bucks beat.
