APPLETON – After nearly 19 years of covering consumer business in the Fox Valley for The Post-Crescent, Maureen Wallenfang last week wrote her final column for the Appleton newspaper.
Wallenfang announced her departure in a farewell column, noting that she had accepted a voluntary severance offer from Gannett, the newspaper’s parent company. Her last day will be Tuesday.

Her column, “The Buzz,” ran every Sunday in The Post-Crescent, and her stories about business openings and closures were regularly among the newspaper’s most widely read online. She noted in the column that The Buzz received more than two million page views a year.
Wallenfang also was frequently honored in the WNA Foundation’s Better Newspaper Contest. Over the last six years, she took home five Business Coverage awards, including first-place honors in 2018.
