He replaces Bob Heisse, who was named executive editor of the River Valley Media Group. Wicklund has spent the last 21 years with The Journal Times, which like the News is a Lee Enterprises newspaper. He started in the Burlington bureau and has gone on to serve as a police reporter, copy editor, photographer and most recently, assistant managing editor.

An Illinois native and University of Kansas graduate, Wicklund has worked at newspapers in Kansas, Illinois and Wisconsin. He has been a Kenosha resident for the past 18 years.

Wicklund and his wife, Susan Shemanske, are part owners of the Washington Island Observer. Shemanske, who served as sports editor of The Journal Times for nearly two decades, was inducted last year into the Wisconsin Newspaper Hall of Fame.
