LA CROSSE — Veteran journalist Bob Heisse has been named executive editor of the River Valley Media Group newspapers, the La Crosse Tribune announced Tuesday.
Heisse will oversee the Tribune newsroom, as well as The Chippewa Herald and Winona (Minn.) Daily News. He succeeds Rusty Cunningham, who last week announced his retirement after 41 years with Lee Enterprises. For the last two years, Heisse served as executive editor of the Kenosha News.

A native of Lancaster, Pa., and a graduate of Penn State University, Heisse previously served in top editor roles at The Times of Northwest Indiana in Munster, and the State Journal-Register in Springfield, Ill. He also spent time as editor at the Centre Daily Times of State College, Pa., and served as city editor of The Patriot-News in Harrisburg, Pa.
Heisse and the newsrooms he’s led have won numerous awards during his career, including recognition as the Associated Press Media Editors Innovator of the Year in 2016. He also received the Lee Enterprises President’s Award in 2016, the Hoosier Press Story of the Year in 2017, and is a two-time recipient of the Inland Press Community Leadership Award.
