FENNIMORE — Matt Johnson, who previously held the role of Fennimore Times editor from 1992 to 2001, is returning to the newspaper as editor, the Times announced Thursday.
Johnson also is publisher of The Monroe Times and will continue in that role. Both newspapers are owned by Morris Newspaper Corporation of Wisconsin.

It was a desire to increase stability in Fennimore, Johnson noted in his introductory column, that led to his return. While discussing how to create that stability, Morris publisher and WNA past president John Ingebritsen suggested Johnson split his time between the two newspapers.
Between stints at the Fennimore Times, Johnson spent 14 years with Lee Enterprises, serving in editor and publisher roles for several weeklies in the La Crosse area. Johnson left Lee in October 2016 when he became publisher in Monroe.
