White replaces Tom Wiley, who after 18 months with the State Journal has been named publisher of The Buffalo (N.Y.) News — which Lee acquired in March from Berkshire Hathaway. Wiley returns to Buffalo after previously serving as advertising manager of The News from 2000 to 2003.

As a group publisher for Lee, White oversees newspapers in Illinois, Indiana, New York and Wisconsin. He will split his time between Madison and Munster, Indiana, where he is publisher of The Times of Northwest Indiana, the state’s second-largest newspaper.

White, an Oklahoma native, began his career at his hometown newspaper, the Ada Evening News. He went on to spent 14 years with its parent company, Community Newspaper Holdings, serving as a group publisher and later as regional vice president of sales. Prior to joining Lee in 2013, White served as publisher of The Repository in Canton, Ohio, and as a group publisher for GateHouse Media, which acquired The Repository from CNHI in 2007.
