Middleton family creates ‘The Quarantine Times’ newspaper

MADISON – To help pass the time during Wisconsin’s “safer-at-home” order, a Middleton family has started The Quarantine Times, an online newspaper featuring content created by children, the Wisconsin State Journal reported Sunday.

Laura Lundgren is editor-in-chief of the newspaper, which she produces with daughters Claire, 10, and Rachel, 8. After sharing the newspaper with Claire’s fourth-grade class, the Lundgrens have received submissions from several other kids.

The Quarantine Times, which produced three editions in April and anticipates two more in May, has more than 100 subscribers. Lundgren also prints copies to deliver to neighbors and shares links on Nextdoor and Facebook.

Features in the newspaper range from thank you notes and interviews with parents to inventing new holidays and writing from a pet’s perspective. Others have contributed drawings and pictures.

The project was recognized last week by The Washington Post in an article about kids across the country producing newspapers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
