Jacob “Jake” Friede, who served as an outdoors reporter for the (Beaver Dam) Daily Citizen and The (Minocqua) Lakeland Times, was found dead in Spring Lake near Kingston on Sunday, April 19, the Daily Citizen reported. Friede, who lived in Beaver Dam, was 42.
The son of Gail (Bremer) and Doug Friede, he was born March 11, 1978, in Beaver Dam. Friede graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1996, and earned his bachelor’s degree in English from UW-Eau Claire in 2001.

Friede was a hunting and fishing enthusiast and combined that with his writing talents to publish articles for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, as well as the two newspapers. He wrote the “Poorman’s Back Forty” for the Daily Citizen and his “Natural Reaction” column was published in The Lakeland Times. Friede, who worked for the Times from September 2018 to January 2020, also covered sports for the newspaper.
A private funeral service for immediate family will be held and recorded. A video of the service will be published on the Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services website.
