5 Wisconsin news outlets selected for coronavirus reporting grants

Five Wisconsin newsrooms have been selected by the Facebook Journalism Project to receive grants to support coronavirus reporting.

FJP announced on Tuesday its full list of 400 newsrooms selected to receive $5,000 grants to cover unexpected costs related to covering the COVID-19 pandemic in their communities. They include the Wausau Pilot & Review, Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service, Racine County Eye and Wisconsin Watch. Nonprofit news organization Madison365 previously was announced among the 50 recipients in FJP’s first round of grants.

FJP awarded a total of $2 million in grants, intended to help newsrooms cover costs of remote work, increased frequency of publishing, combating misinformation and serving vulnerable and at-risk groups. The grant pool was doubled from its original $1 million after more than 200 publishers applied in the first 48 hours.
