ARLINGTON, Va. – Emily Ristow, who spent six years at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, has been named director of local news transformation for the American Press Institute, the nonprofit organization announced Monday.
Ristow is one of three new full-time staff members at API, joining Larry Graham and Tricia Cantor. Together, they will direct and support API’s Local News Transformation Program, also known as Table Stakes.
A 2009 graduate of the University of Missouri, Ristow joined the Journal Sentinel in September 2013 as a digital producer and copy editor. She also has served as social and mobile editor, and most recently, loyalty and engagement news director. Prior to the Journal Sentinel, she worked as a digital specialist, copy editor and designer at The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle.
In her new role, Ristow will help manage the core elements of the Table Stakes program, which she previously experienced as a part of the Journal Sentinel staff. She will work with the participating news organizations to help them succeed, while also overseeing communication strategies for spreading the lessons of the program across the industry.
