The Wisconsin Policy Forum‘s new Municipal DataTool allows users to analyze trends across five years of data on Wisconsin cities and villages.
The interactive tool is a digital version of the yearly Municipal Facts report, which was published annually by the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance prior to merging with the Public Policy Forum. In its new digital format, the Policy Forum also has expanded its report to include all 601 cities and villages across the state.
Key findings include a decline in spending despite growing revenues from property taxes and debt in Wisconsin municipalities. While spending has slowed, the data still shows growth in population and income for Wisconsin cities and villages.
The tool’s data, which includes income and income taxes, population, municipal spending, property taxes and values, debt, population and state shared revenues, is from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
Within the interactive sections of the DataTool, users can compare data for all municipalities in a county or create their own list of up to 10 cities or villages across the state. For those less familiar with the municipal data provided, a glossary of terms also is available.
