A partnership between Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Milwaukee PBS aimed at spreading awareness of teen suicide and providing resources to communities has generated responses from around the globe.
“You’re Not Alone,” a 30-minute documentary on teen suicide premiered last month and is supported by a companion website with educational resources.
More than 170 public school systems across the country have requested free copies of the documentary, according to Current. It also has been featured in a segment on “PBS NewsHour” and was screened at Ripon College during a hearing convened by a state task force on suicide prevention.
Journal Sentinel reporter Rory Linnane, who has spearheaded Gannett’s “Kids in Crisis” series since it began in 2016, teamed up with PBS earlier this year to produce the 30-minute documentary. In it, Linnane interviews four teenagers who discuss bullying, depression and suicide, as well as coping strategies and what they’ve done to help others facing similar situations.
