Packers season is here, and you can feel the excitement building across Wisconsin! If you’re heading to Green Bay for a game this season, there’s plenty you can do before kickoff to get into the Lambeau Field spirit. After all, a Packers game is about so much more than the football being thrown around on the field. It’s about the history, people, places, and Wisconsin pride that make Green Bay such a special destination.
Get Inspired
Start your Packers-inspired adventure from home by tuning into an episode of The Cabin Podcast featuring Packers legend Gilbert Brown. In “Gilbert Brown: Mama’s Boy, Football Legend, and Future Chef,” Brown, known as “The Gravedigger,” shares stories from his football career, his journey to becoming a Super Bowl champion, the people who influenced him along the way, and the work he continues to do through the Gilbert Brown Foundation. It’s an entertaining way to hear directly from one of the players who helped shape Packers history and get yourself in the football spirit before you even make the drive to Green Bay.
Once you arrive, you might be surprised by how much outdoor adventure surrounds the city. Discover Wisconsin’s episode, “Wisconsin’s Water Trails – Lake Michigan,” highlights the Fox River and the incredible relationship Green Bay has with its waterways. The area offers opportunities to get out on the water, including self-service kayaking, while also showcasing the environmental significance of the Bay of Green Bay. The bay is recognized as the world’s largest freshwater estuary and is the focus of efforts to establish a National Estuarine Research Reserve, or NERR, bringing together research, education and stewardship to better understand and protect this unique ecosystem.
Celebrate the Packers!
As game day gets closer, take some time to explore the story behind the team by visiting the Brown County Packers Heritage Trail, recently featured on Uniquely Wisconsin. The trail takes visitors through downtown Green Bay and connects historic locations with the people and stories that helped create the Packers’ legacy. The feature explores how these places and stories come together to tell the story of Titletown and the community that has stood behind its hometown team for generations.
Watch the Uniquely Wisconsin episode before you go, then take the trail for yourself. Walking through the places where Packers history unfolded gives you a different perspective on the team and the city. You begin to understand that the Packers are woven into the fabric of Green Bay itself.
Then, when game day finally arrives, it’s time to experience that community spirit firsthand. Just a short walk from Lambeau Field, Badger State Brewing Company is a popular gathering place in Green Bay’s Stadium District. Badger State Brewing Company, with its craft beers, spacious taproom, outdoor beer garden, and Tiki Bar, offers plenty of room to gather with friends and fellow fans before heading to the stadium. The brewery is known for creating a social, welcoming atmosphere, making it a perfect stop for a Packers game day.
So put on your green and gold and make a day of it. Listen to stories from a Packers legend, get out on the water, discover the history of Titletown, and gather with fellow fans before heading into Lambeau Field. Because when you come to Green Bay for a Packers game, you’re not simply coming to watch football. You’re stepping into a place where football, history, the outdoors, and community have been intertwined for generations.
