Nothing says Wisconsin summer quite like a county fair. From livestock shows and live music to carnival rides and legendary fair food, these hometown traditions are the perfect excuse to plan a weekend getaway. Pair a visit to the fair with nearby attractions, restaurants, and downtowns, and you’ve got the recipe for an unforgettable summer trip.
Oneida County Fair
While you’re in Rhinelander for the fair from July 30-Aug. 2, make extra time to discover everything the area has to offer.
Snap a photo with the legendary Hodag, shop downtown, or head out on one of the many nearby lakes for an afternoon of paddling or fishing. It’s the perfect way to turn a day at the fair into a memorable Northwoods getaway.
Waushara County Fair
For a classic county fair experience, head to Wautoma for the Waushara County Fair from Aug. 20-23. Enjoy 4-H exhibits, livestock shows, tractor pulls, live entertainment, and all your favorite fair foods before exploring the rest of Waushara County.
Make a weekend of it by casting a line on the Pine River or enjoying a classic meal at Sylvercryst Supper Club
Portage County Fair
The Portage County Fair in Rosholt, Aug. 25-30, is packed with everything that makes a Wisconsin county fair memorable, from livestock shows and carnival rides to live entertainment, fair food, and family-friendly activities.
After spending the day at the fair, extend your trip by exploring nearby Plover, where you can visit the Food + Farm Exploration Center, enjoy a meal at a local restaurant, or unwind with a walk through one of the area’s parks and trails. It’s an easy way to turn a fun day at the fair into a full weekend getaway.
Racine County Fair
Held July 29-Aug. 2 in Union Grove, the Racine County Fair is the perfect excuse to explore one of southeast Wisconsin’s most welcoming destinations. Spend the day enjoying classic fair favorites and all your favorite fair food. Then continue your adventure by exploring Burlington and Waterford, where you’ll find charming local shops, excellent restaurants, and plenty of small-town character. It’s the perfect combination of fair fun and discovering everything Racine County has to offer.
