Maria Lockwood left the Superior Telegram this week after nearly 27 years at the newspaper.
Her farewell column appeared in the May 9, 2026 issue of The Superior Telegram.
“We’ve seen a lot together,” she wrote in the column. “When I started at the Daily Telegram, there was a printing press in Superior, work was stored on floppy discs and pictures were taken with film cameras.”
She recalled 9/11/01, weathering the COVID-19 pandemic and refinery fire.
“The stories that stick with me are of everyday people,” Lockwood wrote. “Day after day, I’ve been reminded that everyone has a story to tell. Thank you for sharing your stories with me.
“I will miss our Telegram team, but I’m leaving you in good hands,” Lockwood added.
Lockwood is departing to focus on her family bookstore.
“And I’ll still be around,” Lockwood added. “Stop by the bookstore and say ‘Hi.’ I’d love to see you.”
