Wisconsin Watch launches Northeast News

Wisconsin Watch recently launched Northeast News, a new newsletter focused on the issues shaping daily life across Green Bay, the Fox Valley and beyond.

“We’re building this work in partnership with readers who believe this region deserves clear, independent reporting that answers to its community,” wrote Jim Malewitz, Wisconsin Watch Managing Editor.

Delivered every other week to start, Northeast News will bring:

• Clear, in-depth reporting focused on northeast Wisconsin.

• Behind-the-scenes insights into the newsroom and reporting process.

• A curated roundup of important stories from trusted local news partners.

• Agendas for upcoming city and county meetings, so readers know what decisions are coming and how to get involved.

• Community spotlights celebrating local “heroes,” towns and organizations.

• Space for reader feedback and letters.

Jen Zettel-Vandenhouten, who joined Wisconsin Watch in August 2025, will serve as regional editor for northeastern Wisconsin.

“From big cities like Appleton and Green Bay to small rural communities, people are asking for clearer information about the systems that affect daily life, along with coverage that connects problems to action,” Zettel-Vandenhouten wrote in the first edition of Northeast News. “We know that because northeast Wisconsin residents have said so in listening sessions and conversations across the region.”

Zettel-Vandenhouten previously served as managing editor for Project Optimist, a nonprofit news organization focused on greater Minnesota. Her past employers include the Duluth News Tribune, The Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wis.), USA TODAY Network-Wisconsin, and the Watertown Daily Times (Watertown).
