UPDATED: WNA Foundation announces 2025 collegiate student contest winners

The WNA Foundation recognized Wisconsin’s outstanding student journalists on Thursday, March 5. Winners of the 2025 Collegiate Better Newspaper Contest were announced during the Branen Family Student Luncheon at the 2026 WNA Convention at the Concourse Hotel in Madison.

The 2025 Collegiate Better Newspaper Contest featured 331 entries from 12 campus newspapers. The ceremony highlighted all winning entries of the contest’s top prizes, including General Excellence and Collegiate Journalists of the Year. 

The Daily Cardinal took home top honors in General Excellence Division A and The Clarion won first place for General Excellence in Division B and Division C.

Collegiate Journalist of the Year in Division A went to Annika Bereny  of The Daily Cardinal at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Collegiate Journalist of the Year in Division B and Division C went to Chase Keller from The Royal Purple at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
