O’Rourke Media Group has named JJ Tompkins as publisher of its Wisconsin Media Group, which includes nine hyper-local community newspapers and affiliated websites across the state.

In this role, Tompkins will lead market-level operations, drive revenue growth for OMG’s digital agency in each community and help identify future expansion and acquisition opportunities in Wisconsin.
“JJ brings deep experience leading local community newspapers and building high-performing sales organizations,” said Jim O’Rourke, CEO and owner of O’Rourke Media Group.
“His track record, leadership style and understanding of local media economics0.19 in make him an outstanding addition to our team,” O’Rourke added. “I also greatly respect the work JJ has done guiding multiple newspaper groups through successful transitions, and we are excited about what he will bring to our Wisconsin operations.”

“I’m excited to join O’Rourke Media Group and work alongside teams who are deeply committed to local journalism and community success,” Tompkins said. “Wisconsin has strong, vibrant markets and I look forward to building on the great work already underway—growing audience, strengthening advertiser partnerships and ensuring our publications continue to serve as essential community resources.”
The Wisconsin Media Group, built through four acquisitions since 2019, has been a key driver of OMG’s overall growth. Tompkins will inherit strong teams across sales, editorial and operations, supported by OMG’s centralized growth organization focused on accelerating digital transformation, audience development and revenue performance.
“The entire OMG team is excited to partner with JJ to strengthen our sales organizations and drive audience growth in Kiel, Sheboygan, Ripon and the greater Madison market,” O’Rourke added. “We see significant opportunities to grow advertising revenue and continue investing in the people, technology and content that serve our communities.”
