Town of Stubbs Board Chair David Kochendorfer resigned following the filing of a formal Open Meetings Law complaint against him.
A Jan. 1, 2026 story in the Ladysmith News detailed the resignation and complaint. According to the story:
Recently a group of Stubbs residents met with Rusk County District Attorney John Carbranes to discuss grievances with Kochendorfer, including a complaint that a town meeting had been held in a closed session that was not listed on that meeting’s agenda.
Carbranes sent Kochendorfer a letter asking for evidence of a decision to hold a closed session.
Another filing related to an alleged misuse of town funds has also been filed with Cabranes and awaiting his review.
It is unknown if the filing is directed at the town board or just the town board chair.
Kochendorfer resigned in a Dec. 23, 2025 letter to town supervisors and the town clerk, citing medical reasons. He also pledged to assist the new town chair during the transitional period.
“I would like to thank the 70% of the town who voted for me in the last election to eliminate the preferential treatment of a few individuals that was occurring in the Town of Stubbs,” Kochendorfer wrote. “I trust the excellent work will continue to be accomplished or the good of the 400 to 500 electors and to ensure everyone is heard, not just the approximate 10 individuals who show up at every meeting and continually disrupt the meetings.”
