Did you know Wisconsin is quickly becoming known for its own brand of locally crafted bourbon? It’s true! Communities across the state are shining a spotlight on hand-crafted spirits made mostly from farm-fresh Wisconsin grains grown just around the corner. So buckle up and get ready to hit the Wisconsin Bourbon Trail this fall for an unforgettable tour that brings together great spirits, fascinating stories, and crisp autumn views!
Stop #1: Dancing Goat Distillery
Tucked in the beautiful vineyards of Cambridge, Wisconsin, Dancing Goat Distillery offers a warm welcome with its own gin, barrel-aged brandy, and award-winning whiskies, making a name for itself on the Wisconsin Bourbon Trail! This distillery helps visitors discover their own palate while learning about spirits and the unique Wisconsin terroir. Here, you’ll find delicious notes of oak, vanilla, and caramel in every sip! And be sure to check out the traditional Kentucky-style Rickhouse on the property.
Stop #2: J. Henry & Sons
Next up is J. Henry & Sons in Dane, Wisconsin, a farm and distillery rooted in history since 1946. This family farm produces heirloom grains that fuel their one-of-a-kind bourbon. Did you know the iconic seed corn varietal used here dates back to 1939? That very seed helped lay the foundation for J. Henry & Sons’ renowned bourbons today. They were also the first in Wisconsin to offer bourbon-specific tours! A few crowd favorites to try are the Limited Edition Anniversary Blend and the Small Batch Blend.
Stop #3: Ledgerock Distillery
Continue the trail northeast to Fond du Lac to visit Ledgerock Distillery, nestled right on the Niagara Escarpment. This bourbon benefits from the pure limestone-filtered water of the area and grains freshly harvested from Ledgerock’s very own farm. What makes Ledgerock unique? Instead of rye, they use soft red winter wheat, giving their bourbon an earthy, smooth twist you won’t forget! This family-run distillery handles every step themselves—from farming to distilling—making their spirits a true farm-to-bottle experience.
Stop #4: Central Standard Craft Distillery
Finish your bourbon journey in Milwaukee at Central Standard Craft Distillery. Founded in 2014 by two friends who bonded over bourbon, this distillery has grown from a side project to a full-time passion. Their extensive spirit menu, high-quality aging, and in-house crafted cocktails make it a must-visit. Located right in the city, they source local ingredients to keep their spirits fresh and authentic! Be sure to try their famous Old Fashioned to celebrate Wisconsin’s bourbon pride in true style.
Now that you have your Wisconsin Bourbon Trail map, it’s time to hit the road! Along the way, you’ll taste some of the finest bourbons crafted with original recipes passed down through generations. And there’s no better time than fall—enjoy colorful foliage, fresh air, and the inviting warmth of locally made bourbon at every stop!
