Hongyu Liu recently joined Wisconsin Watch as a data investigative reporter. He previously worked at The Post and Courier in Charleston, South Carolina, as a data reporting fellow.
Hongyu conducts data analysis and creates interactive narratives and graphics to identify investigative stories and add context to reporting. He plans to use data to provide rich context to Wisconsin Watch journalism that aims to make communities strong, informed and connected. That includes finding investigative leads rooted in data and producing visualizations that explain the issues Wisconsin Watch covers, such as its DataWatch series.
Hongyu has a master’s degree in data journalism from Columbia University. He previously covered local news for various publications in Boston and Beijing, including The Patriot Ledger, DIG Boston and Sampan Newspaper
