Hatvany departs for Oregon

Saskia Hatvany has left The LaCrosse Tribune and Winona Daily News after two years as a photojournalist.

“When I was lucky enough to be offered the job at the La Crosse Tribune (and by proxy the Winona Daily News), I arrived to find that I was the only full-time photojournalist for many miles in any direction. Knowing this, my role as a local journalist sometimes felt like an overwhelming responsibility. Not only because visual journalism is an essential part of local reporting, but because I was drawn to this career by the desire to provide a public service through an art form that I have been passionate about my whole life,” she wrote in her Aug. 30 farewell column.

In her next role Hatvany will be a photojournalist for Oregon Public Broadcasting in Portland, Oregon. She thanked editors Todd Krysiak and Allan Swift as well as the newsroom reporters for the experience.

“I’m excited for the new experience,” she wrote, “but it’s also bittersweet to leave a beautiful place and wonderful newsroom.”
