From urban wildlife oases to drive-through safari parks, the state offers a variety of animal experiences that bring visitors face-to-face with creatures from across the globe—all while championing education and conservation.

July is the perfect time to visit, as it also honors the heroes who care for the animals 365 days a year. July 1st was American Zoo Day, marking the anniversary of the first zoo in the United States and celebrating the role modern zoos play in conservation and education. Later in the month, National Zoo Keeper Week (July 20–26) will shine a spotlight on the dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to ensure the health and well-being of every animal.
