Celia Hiorns recently joined the staff as a reporter for the Sawyer County Record.
A Spring 2025 graduate of the UW-Madison, Hiorns has a degree in journalism, with a political science major and minors in environmental studies and science communication. Her introductory story appeared in the June 25, 2025 issue of The Record.
Encouraged at an early age to consider journalism, Hiorns wrote for the Middleton High School newspaper, The Cardinal Chronicle.
At UW-Madison she wrote for The Badger Herald, one of the nation’s largest fully independent student newspapers. She was one of two opinion editors, and in her junior year she became Editor-in- chief. She graduated “with distinction,” in the top 10% of her class and immediately began applying for journalism jobs. Hiorns is already covering city and county government, environmental stories, and new businesses.
