State Journal: Attack on Cottage Grove family preceded by police underage video investigation

Cottage Grove police referred charges against six juveniles at Glacial Drumlin Middle School earlier this year for allegedly circulating a pornographic video involving other underage students, according to newly released police records and a June 14, 2025 story in the Wisconsin State Journal.

According to the story:

Several students’ phones were confiscated, and the six students were ultimately charged with possession of child pornography, exposing a child to harmful material or both. The reports were released in response to a State Journal records request for documents related to a late April crash in the village in which police say 49-year-old Jeffrey Endres — angered over a related incident police were investigating — intentionally ran down a family walking their dog. The crash killed Kami Hansen, 41, and severely injured her son. Endres died in jail on May 6.

According to the recently released police reports, staff at Glacial Drumlin became aware that students were circulating a video showing other underage people engaging in a sex act. During the investigation into that incident, police found a separate video on one of the student’s phones and launched a second investigation that also resulted in a referral to juvenile court. That investigation involved an incident between the student and one of Endres’ children.

On April 28, Endres obtained a copy of the records of that investigation under the state’s open records law. Hours later, he attacked the student with his car, injuring him and killing Hansen, police said. It’s not known what happened in any of the criminal cases involving any of the students implicated in the two investigations because juvenile court hearings are closed to the public.

The results of a Madison police investigation into how Endres died at the jail have been turned over to the Dane County District Attorney’s office, a Madison police spokesperson said.
