As spring takes hold in Wisconsin, we’re highlighting a few must-visit preserves across the state that showcase Wisconsin’s incredible landscapes.
Gibraltar Rock State Natural Area
Starting off strong in Lodi, Wisconsin, is Gibraltar Rock State Natural Area. Perched above the Wisconsin River Valley, this natural area offers stunning panoramic views that are especially beautiful as the seasons change. The sandstone bluff stands as one of the most dramatic natural overlooks in the state, making for a rewarding hike. Gibraltar Rock is part of the Ice Age Trail, which makes it a perfect stop for those who are seeking to explore Wisconsin’s geological history, while also taking in some unforgettable scenery.
Lion’s Den Gorge Nature Preserve
Moving on over to Grafton, you can find a mix of lakefront beauty and rugged trails at Lion’s Den Gorge. Situated along Lake Michigan, this is a can’t-miss destination. This preserve is just north of Milwaukee and features well-maintained trails, boardwalks, and staircases that lead down to a clean beach. It’s a great place for photography, birding, or just taking a stroll along Lake Michigan.
Dells of the Wisconsin River State Natural Area
In one of Wisconsin’s most visited areas, you’ll find the Dells of the Wisconsin River State Natural Area in the Wisconsin Dells.
