Crawford County Independent to mark 120th anniversary on May 23

Celebrate 120 years of publishing The Independent in Crawford County with an anniversary party on Friday, May 23 at the Independent-Scout office located in the Gays Mills Mercantile Center.

T.F. O’Neil published Volume 1 of ‘The Independent’ in Gays Mills on May 23,1905. The anniversary announcement appeared in the May 8, 2025 issue of the Independent-Scout.

The party will be held Friday, May 23, 2025 from 2-6 p.m., featuring refreshments, prizes and more. Plans include grilling local brats and wieners, and offering a variety of other food.

Special guests will include The Independent’s columnists and current staff, with alumni staff invited to attend. Editors and staff from the other 10 publications in Morris Newspapers Wisconsin – including publisher John Ingebritsen – have been invited to attend.
