Down-sized Johnson still writing in Vilas County

After he was “flung into the deep end of the nation’s labor pool with the recent corporate cost-cutting elimination of my downstate reporting job after 37 months and a dozen professional awards,” Eric Johnson is still writing for the Vilas County News-Review and the Three Lakes News in Eagle River.

Johnson wrote about most recent chapter in his 36-year journalism career in Wisconsin, Illinois and Ohio bemoaning the likely low odds to gain employment as a 60-something-year-old, but he also reviewed the opportunities not previously realized during his journalism career.

“Perhaps the biggest blessing of being downsized, besides offering a period to slow down, refresh, reflect and smell the tulips, has been the chance to reset and pivot in a fresh new direction, asking the question ‘why is this happening FOR me, not why is this happening TO me.’ Obviously, some days are easier than others in positively embracing this season of change and uncertainty,” Johnson wrote in the column that appeared in the April 2, 2-25 issue of Three Lake News.
