On Feb. 24, the Lake Geneva City Council unanimously approved Mayor Todd Krause’s appointment of a former Lake Geneva Regional News general manager to the Historic Preservation Commission, according to a March 12, 2025 story in the LGRN written by Dennis Hines.

John Halverson served as a District 2 alderman for about six years. He worked as the general manager for the Lake Geneva Regional News from 2008-14, but also was a member of the Lake Geneva Public Library Board. His term is set to expire May 1.

Halverson will replace former Historic Preservation Commission member Patrick Quinn, who passed away Jan. 3.

No stranger to the Lake Geneva council, Halverson was elected District 2 alderman in 2017 by defeating then incumbent Ted Horne. Halverson ran unopposed in 2019 and defeated challenger Ann Esarco during the April 2021 spring election, but was defeated by current District 2 Alderwoman Linda Frame during the spring 2023 election.

“John is no stranger. He served three terms as an alderman and eight years as the editor for the Lake Geneva Regional News,” Krause said. “He was on the Lake Geneva and Janesville library boards. John is really excited about this.”

The Lake Geneva Historic Preservation Commission is responsible for reviewing proposals related to sign, construction, demolition and architectural projects in the city’s historic preservation districts, according to the article.
