The Collier Prize for State Government Accountability at the University of Florida recognizes the best U.S. professional reporting on state government accountability in any medium or on any platform.
Entries will be judged on how well they reflect excellence in accountability coverage of state government, with special attention paid to overcoming particular challenges or difficulties in reporting or publishing, and any significant impact from the reporting.
For the 2025 prize, entries must have been broadcast or published between Jan. 1, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2024. The deadline for accepting nominations will be 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Jan. 31, 2025.
One of the largest journalism awards in the nation, The Collier Prize is available to any US news organization. Last year’s winner included an investigation into the mishandling of the active-shooter incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas; a project that showed a state environmental regulator knew for two decades about high benzine emissions from a chemical storage site in a Latino community but failed to stop it; and, a work that revealed the government’s shortcomings in preparing for, communicating and responding to a deadly blizzard.
The 2025 prize will consist of one $25,000 winner, one $5,000 winner, and one $2,500 winner. Prize money is paid to the news organization that published the winning/nominated entries.
