Persike retires from Northwoods Star Journal

Eileen Persike announced her retirement as editor of the Northwoods Star Journal in a small item that appeared in the publication’s Dec. 25, 2024 issue. She was employed by the newspaper for 19 years.

Persike thanked her family for “their patience and understanding about the long hours, vacations that didn’t take place and the distraction of incoming email.”

“If you are reading this, thank you for your interest in local news. You have given me and the rest of the team at the Star Journal purpose in what we work so hard to produce,” Persike wrote. “Meeting community members and helping them tell their stories over the years has been a joy; being trusted to share them, an immense honor.”

Christina Brandmeier will be the new NSJ editor. She most recently worked for the Vilas County News Review as the Lifestyle editor.
