The Edgerton Reporter earned several National Newspaper Association awards during the 2024 NNA Better Newspaper Contest. Results were announced in early December 2024 through the NNA website.
The Edgerton Reporter won the following awards in the corresponding categories:
First place – Best Local News Coverage for a Sept. 20 , 2023 local news cover in the Daily & Non-Daily Division (Circulation Less than 3,000); for a Story or Series in the Best Non-Profile Feature Story category (Non-Daily Division for circulation between 2,000 and 3,000) for Tristan McGough’s Haunted Lincoln-Tallman House story; and, Best Editorial in the Non-Daily Division with circulation of between 2,000 and 3,000 for an editorial about transparency.
Third Place – Dave Wedeward won third for the Best Sports Column in the Daily & Non-Daily Division (less than 3,000 circulation) for a column entitled “Dynamic Dozen highlights memorable home football game.”
Honorable mention – The Edgerton Reporter received five honorable mention awards for Best Agricultural Story (Tina Hinchley), Best Localized National Story by Ryan Baker for “Local man wins national tournament”; Best Sports Story by the late Sam Martino for “Pins (300) fall for prep bowler Shawn Simdars” ; and Elizabeth Johnson’s boys wrestling photo.
Each year NNA honors the best in community journalism in the Better Newspaper Editorial Contest and the best in community newspaper advertising in the Better Newspaper Advertising Contest.
Awards will be presented during the National Newspaper Association Foundation’s 138th annual Convention and Trade Show scheduled Sept. 26-27, 2024 in Omaha, Neb.
