Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza honored Gene Kemmeter for more than 50 years of serving Portage County in the field of journalism. He presented a proclamation at the Wooden Chair Restaurant before a group of friends, former colleagues and family.
Kemmeter currently write about Portage County history, for what is now the Stevens Point Gazette. He has also worked at the Ripon Commonwealth-Press and Stevens Point Journal. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Portage County Gazette in July 1999 and served as editor for 18 years.
