Pete Wasson, who has served as editor of the Ashland Daily Press for the past six years, is stepping down from the newspaper. His last day will be Friday, March 29, he announced March 1 in a farewell column.
He plans to continue contributing to the Press, he wrote.
During his tenure, he served as the Ashland County media coordinator for the Wisconsin Court System, facilitating media access to the state’s circuit courts, Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.
Before joining Adams Publishing Group, owner of the Press, Wasson served as local news editor and assistant managing editor at the Wausau Daily Herald. He previously worked as a reporter and editor at the Longview (Texas) News-Journal, (Eau Claire) Leader-Telegram and Country Today, (Philips) Price County Review, Rice Lake Chronotype, (Hayward) Sawyer County Record, Spooner Advocate and the Antigo Journal.
He began his journalism career as a reporter for The Miami Student at Miami University in Ohio, where he earned his degree in English, with minors in political science and American studies. He was elected to the Wisconsin Associated Press Editors Association in 2014 and is the recipient of many writing awards from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association.
