WNA Foundation seeking volunteer judges for Pennsylvania newspaper contest

Each year, the WNA Foundation recognizes hundreds of newspaper professionals across the state with Better Newspaper Contest awards. It’s a tradition made possible because of reciprocal judging partnerships with other newspaper associations. Without volunteers, the WNA Foundation would not be able to hold its annual contests.

Even though professionals from the Kentucky Press Association are currently busy judging the WNA Foundation’s contest entries, we’ve partnered in 2024 with the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association — and they are already underway with this year’s judging for their contest. At least 55 volunteers are needed to judge the contest across a variety of editorial, photography, design and advertising categories.

The Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association plans to provide judges with assignments in early- to mid-February, with a judging deadline of late March. The judging will be completed online via BetterBNC, so you can do it at your convenience in the comfort of your own home or office.

Judging another state’s newspaper contest can be a great way to gain inspiration and see some of the great work being done by industry peers. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a judge — or signing up your entire newsroom to participate!
