Spread the word about the Wisconsin Civics Games editorial writing & cartoon contest

The WNA Foundation is excited to announce the third annual Wisconsin Civics Games Editorial Writing & Cartoon Contest, which aims to increase civic education and engagement while celebrating the First Amendment and the importance of newspapers in our society.

The contest is open to all Wisconsin middle and high school students, including home-schooled students, and winners will receive up to $500 — and the opportunity to have their winning entry published by newspapers across the state.

The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, and we need your help getting the word out!

How you can help

1. Publish stories and editorials. Consider publishing a news story and/or editorial about the contest. You are also welcome to republish our announcement.

2. Tell teachers and administrators at your local schools. You know those in your community best, and making that personal contact goes a long way.

3. Run house ads promoting the contest. To support these efforts, the WNA Foundation asks that member newspapers run print & digital ads promoting the Civics Games contests once a week for the duration of the entry period, as space allows. Download ads here.

4. Spread the word on social media. We’ve provided social media assets, including videos, to help promote the contest. You also can use any of the videos that were part of previous awards presentations.

5. Publish winning entries. (This comes later.) After the winners are announced in December, member newspapers are asked to consider publishing the winning entries. See last year’s winning entries.
