WNA members urged to contact lawmakers in support of ad tax credit

As the members of the state Joint Finance Committee work on the 2023-25 state budget, they’ve been asked to consider a tax credit that will help small businesses advertise with local media outlets in Wisconsin.

This proposal — being championed by Rep. Todd Novak (R-Dodgeville) — would establish a 25% tax credit for small businesses that purchase advertising from Wisconsin-based newspapers, radio stations, television stations and online news organizations. The credit would be capped at $2,500 and would sunset after five years. (Download the proposal here.)

The advertising incentive creates a win-win scenario for small businesses that want to advertise and for local media outlets. Similar legislation was proposed last session and garnered bipartisan support.

The WNA is asking members to:

  1. Contact their state representatives and state senator to express support for the tax credit.
  2. Share this information with small business advertisers and encourage them to contact their legislators.
  3. Editorialize in support of the tax credit. (Copy is available for republication.)
