Joe Fazendin, former owner for Stanley Republican, dies at 84

Joe Fazendin, who owned the Stanley Republican for more than three decades, died on Thursday, March 16, at his home in Stanley, the newspaper reports. He was 83.

Born on August 29, 1938, in Stillwater, Minn., to Benedict A. and Gertrude (Torsch) Fazendin, he attended high school in St. Charles, Minn., and graduated from Winona State College. He married Barbara Ernster on April 28, 1962, in Caledonia, Minn.

Fazendin went on to work for the St. Charles Press, as well as IBM in Rochester, Minn. He owned the Fulda (Minn.) Free Press for three years before he and his wife purchased the Stanley Republican. He served as publisher of the newspaper for more than 35 years before selling it in 2004.
