Dining critic Carol Deptolla leaving Journal Sentinel

Carol Deptolla, who has served as dining critic for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for the past 15 years, is retiring from the newspaper, she announced in a farewell column Monday.

“No matter how much fun dinner is, we have to leave the table sometime,” wrote Deptolla. “It’s been glorious, and a privilege, to tell you about Milwaukee’s dining scene as it’s grown since I became the critic, from tiny takeout storefronts to lavish fine dining, food trucks to food halls.”

Deptolla, who succeeded Dennis Getto after his death in 2007, previously served as assistant chief of the Journal Sentinel‘s night copy desk. A Milwaukee native, she joined the newspaper as a reporter and features editor in the late 90s.

Although this week is her last, Deptolla wrote that she’s leaving some reviews and articles that will be published in the coming weeks.
