Tony Ends, who has served as editor of The (Brodhead) Independent-Register since May, is stepping aside from the role, he announced in a column welcoming new editor Robin Orvino.
It’s the fifth time that Ends, who works full-time as a writer and editor for the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, has served as editor of the newspaper since 2015. He wrote that he hopes to continue writing for The Independent-Register on an occasional basis, he wrote.
Ends earned his bachelor’s degree in English in 1975 from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill., and his master’s degree in journalism in 1980 from Marquette University.
In addition to The Independent-Register, he has held positions at newspapers including the (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) Sun News, the (Hendersonville, N.C.) Times News, the (Ashveille, N.C.) Citizen Times and The (Janesville) Gazette. Ends, who eventually transtioned to a career in agriculture, has had a journalism career spanning 43 years.
