5 ways WNA members can help promote the Wisconsin Civics Games

Last week, the WNA Foundation opened registration for the Wisconsin Civics Games. We’ve already had several schools sign up to participate, but we need members’ help to reach a wider audience.

The 2023 regional competitions will be held virtually on Thursday, April 13 and Friday, April 14, with the top-performing teams advancing to the state finals on Friday, May 12, at the Wisconsin State Capitol. Members of the winning team will each be awarded $2,000 toward tuition to a Wisconsin college or university of their choice. The scholarships are funded in part by the generous support of the UW System.

The deadline to register is Feb. 20, so the sooner you can spread the word, the better! Here are five ways you can help promote participation and foster civic engagement among Wisconsin youth:

1. Publish a story about the Games.

If you haven’t already let readers know about the initiative, feel free to use (or modify) our announcement. Feel free to use photos from our gallery or Facebook page.

If you’ve already published a story, consider following up with:

  • An editorial or column about the importance of civic engagement.
  • An enterprise piece on the civics education efforts of your local school district.
  • A feature on local students planning to participate. (See who has signed up so far.)

2. Publish print and digital ads.

Download digital and print ads here. (Print ads are available in a variety of sizes for both tabloid and broadsheet publications.)

3. Spread the word on social media.

4. Encourage your local schools to participate.

Consider passing along our Civics Games Guide, which provides a great overview of the competition.

5. Volunteer to help.

Let us know if you’re interested in being a judge or helping at the state finals by assisting with registration and supervising student participants.
