The Board of Directors of the Washington Island Observer has reorganized its editorial staff to better meet the needs of its audiences and to continue publishing a community newspaper that is “All About the Island.”
Liz Welter, former reporter for the Door County Advocate, has been named Executive Editor of the Washington Island Observer.
Welter has worked as a journalist for more than 30 years, including 12 years as a reporter for Gannett. She has long Washington Island roots.
Emily Small, assistant editor for the Washington Island Observer, has been named associate editor. Small covers town board meetings and writes feature stories. She has a bachelor’s degree from Carthage College.
Tina Gohr has been named assistant editor for culture. Gohr will be responsible for photographing and reporting on island events throughout the summer and fall season.
She has been in the newspaper business since 1973 in Brown, Door and Kewaunee counties. Her most recent position was with the Door County Advocate as chief photographer and journalist.
