Katelyn Ferral, an investigative reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, has been reporting on the Russian invasion of Ukraine since Feb. 24 for the USA Today Network.
Ferral’s connection to the country dates to 2013, when she spent a summer teaching English at a university in Ukraine. She wrote about her time there shortly after her return to the region last month.
Based in Poland, Ferral is part of a team of USA Today Network journalists covering Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Recently, she has contributed to coverage of President Biden’s announcement of $800 million in additional military aid and the increasing tension in Poland as airstrikes from Russia push the war closer to its border.
Her coverage has focused primarily on Ukrainian refugees who have fled the country for Poland. She also has written about those who are returning to the country, primarily to join the fight against Russia.
