The National Newspaper Association Foundation this week announced that this year’s News Fellows program would go virtual.
The fellowship will focus on climate change and be held on March 15. It includes a virtual conversation with U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm. Students also will have the opportunity to meet Rep. Debbie Dingell, who serves on the House Energy Committee, as well as a lobbyist who handles climate issues and a reporter who covers electric vehicles.

Fellowship participants will work with a mentor, who will help them write a story for distribution by their host state newspaper association.
The virtual program had about seven open spots as of Tuesday, which will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested students or those wishing to nominate a Wisconsin college student for the fellowship should contact Lisa McGraw, public affairs manager for the Michigan Press Association, at lisa@michiganpress.org.
