She succeeds John Mielke, who in July 2020 retired as communications director after 19 years at UW-Parkside. Elie started in her new position on Jan. 24.

In the role, Elie is the school’s primary legislative liaison and public information officer. She also will serve as a member of the chancellor’s cabinet and will lead the communications, branding and marketing efforts at UW-Parkside.

Prior to her time in higher education, Elie spent 20 years as a reporter and columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. She started with the newspaper in June 1989 as a general assignment reporter. Elie also covered federal courts and government for the newspaper before spending the majority of her career covering business, first as a reporter and later a columnist.
