Tannette Elie, a UW-Parkside lecturer and former longtime journalist, has been named as the school’s executive director of university relations, The (Racine) Journal Times reported this week.
She succeeds John Mielke, who in July 2020 retired as communications director after 19 years at UW-Parkside. Elie started in her new position on Jan. 24.

In the role, Elie is the school’s primary legislative liaison and public information officer. She also will serve as a member of the chancellor’s cabinet and will lead the communications, branding and marketing efforts at UW-Parkside.
Prior to her time in higher education, Elie spent 20 years as a reporter and columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. She started with the newspaper in June 1989 as a general assignment reporter. Elie also covered federal courts and government for the newspaper before spending the majority of her career covering business, first as a reporter and later a columnist.
