Herbert Kohlbeck, hotel owner who also delivered newspapers, dies at 96

Herbert “Herb” L. Kohlbeck, a longtime Manitowoc County business owner who also delivered newspapers, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, at his home in rural Whitelaw. He was 96.

Born June 13, 1925, to George and Rosa (Lensmire) Kohlbeck, he grew up in the town of Franklin and graduated from Reedsville High School in 1943.

Kohlbeck married Marie B. Strouf on April 26, 1950, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot. Together they had one son, Richard, and one granddaughter, Marissa.

Herb and Marie owned and operated Kohlbeck’s Riverview Inn at Reifs Mills for more than 34 years. Kohlbeck also delivered newspapers for the (Manitowoc) Herald Times Reporter and worked for Belgioioso Cheese in Denmark, Wis.
